The new catalog section of the website is making its debut today. Last month I had a small crisis brought on by the realization that if I ever want to get the catalog out of Filemaker Pro and onto the website I am going to have to learn and become proficient in PHP and MySQL. Just a little something to do in my spare time. So I decided to put some static HTML pages up to act as a placeholder until that happens. I think that it's a better placeholder than the one that was there for the past 2 years. In addition to having pretty, pretty pictures to look at, this will ideally provide a better sense of the Library's collection to those who don't have the opportunity to visit it in person.

Rachel and I just got back from a weekend in Baltimore where we visited our friends Catherine and David. Every time I go to Baltimore I love it, and I find it very exciting that we now have friends who live there because I plan on visiting more regularly. On Saturday, Catherine took us to the most amazing bookstore that I have ever been to in my entire life. Seriously. I practically had heart palpitations during the entire time that we spent in the cavernous wonder that is The Book Thing. All of the books are free, you can take as many as you like, and a lot of them were prime Reanimation Library material. It made my brain go out of focus. Anyhow, needless to say I scored some sweet finds that included a handwriting analyzer, a beautiful plant biology book, and some exceptional books on weather systems.
