Yesterday, two of my favorite people in the world, Laurel Sparks and Hannah Barrett, delivered a small load of happiness to the library. Laurel and Hannah are both amazing painters who live in Jamaica Plain, MA. They also teach painting in numerous schools in Boston. After the image archive was launched in February, Laurel developed an assignment for her sophomore painting students at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design that concerned working with found images. It required each student to make a work that was derived from an image, or some combination of images, from the library's online archive. Last Wednesday, Laurel sent me images of these 17 paintings and I selected 5 of them to be brought to the library. They will be on display for the next month, so please come see them if you can. Many thanks to all of Laurel's students for such a great effort.
