The Reanimation Library is pleased to announce Center City Branch, a temporary manifestation of the Reanimation Library at Vox Populi in Philadelphia. Running from August 7th until August 30th, Center City Branch will be assembled from books found in thrift stores and libraries across Philadelphia and will be available for artists to work with during regular gallery hours. The books at Center City Branch will not circulate, but the library will be equipped with a small photocopier and scanners to facilitate text and image harvesting. Library-inspired artworks by Kim Beck, Rachel Bers, Charles Goldman, Steve Griffin, Marget Long, Anna Stein, and Chris Warrington will be displayed in the gallery alongside the library. A small photocopied catalog will be produced to document the books in the collection and the work produced during the show.
Please join us for an opening celebration at Vox Populi on August 7th from 6 - 11pm. Vox is located on the 3rd Floor of 319 North 11th Street in Philadelphia.
Founded in 1988, Vox Populi is a nonprofit artist collective that supports the work of emerging artists with monthly exhibitions, gallery talks, performances and lectures. For over 20 years, Vox has played a unique role in the cultural life of Philadelphia by bringing their audience cutting-edge contemporary art and a diverse range of programming, while at the same time providing a supportive environment in which artists can experiment, take risks and gain valuable experience in launching their professional careers.

My friend Charles Goldman was on his way to the Library last weekend when he stopped at a stoop sale and bought this composter that was sporting a Reanimation Library sticker. I really can't think of a better place for a Reanimation Library sticker to be stuck.

In case you missed it, the Library was featured last week on Dale Radio, the weekly podcast of Dale Seever, who in my estimation is the unofficial mayor of Gowanus. You can listen to the July 13th episode, Not About Zombies, here: http://www.jamesbewley.com/
In the unlikely event that you ever wondered how the director of the Reanimation Library would respond to a request for a list of inspiring links, the answer has been revealed.
A reminder that the 41-month Reanimation Library Mesoamerican Long Countdown to the End Calendar is now available through lulu.com. If you would like to order a copy, please click here.

The Library is pleased to present this poster tomorrow at The Chicago Underground Library's event, The Science of Obscurity. If you're in Chicago, please stop by and see it. Here's the skinny from the CUL's website:
The Chicago Underground Library celebrates "The Science of Obscurity," an evening of new, unpublished, and in-progress works presented as science fair experiments. The night will also feature a public book launch via catapult and the mass purging of rejection letters-community literary rituals in need of revival!
If you are a writer, publisher, bookmaker, or booklover of any stripe who has recently finished writing a book, has published a book in the past year, or just feels like taking out some aggression on a publication of your choice, we invite you to celebrate by launching your work into space-or at least halfway down the block. We define "book" broadly, so zines, magazines, chapbooks, textbooks, and more are welcome. Read a paragraph, then release!
And while we're busy launching texts outside, we'll be dissecting the mysteries of the literary universe inside. Join a dozen local, national, and international writers as they intricately explain the scientific principles underlying their work, real or imagined. Dioramas! Volcanoes! Colorful graphs! Higher mathematics!
We'll cap the remarkable evening with the shredding and launch of your collective rejection letters, so take them out of storage and cart them along to hand over to our nurturing, accepting staff at the Rejection Table.
This event is free and for all ages. Its other attractions will include the dazzling debut of the Chicago Underground Library's artist-designed drop boxes, debutantes, prizes, and a raffle!
This is an official Printers' Ball lead up event. Save the date for the Ball on July 31st at Columbia College's Center for Book and Paper Arts!
