The first event of the year long interdisciplinary Library Exhibit at Proteus Gowanus was a thorough success. Despite the fact that it was a somewhat miserable, rainy night, we had a packed house for Rick and Megan Shaw Prelinger's talk. They presented a slideshow in which they elucidated the development of and guiding philosophy behind their Library. The sheer size and richness of the collection—combined with their pro-appropriation attitude—seems likely to ensure its standing as a central resource for a wide variety of art and research projects. The Bay Area is very lucky to have them.

I want to extend my gratitude to the Prelingers and everybody who came to their talk last Tuesday—it was a fantastic start to the Library Exhibit.
