Lately, a whole bunch of things have been making me happy at the library. My current intern, Jessa Lingel, has been kicking serious ass on the image archive. Its been a total pleasure to have her around and to see the great images that she has been selecting to scan. Last Thursday, we held the first ever Reanimation Library holiday party. It was easily the best holiday party that I have ever been to in my life.
I have also gotten some great new book and non-book acquisitions. I finally received a few packages of books that I bought this summer in Minnesota. Rachel and I stayed up in Little Marais at this little cabin on the North Shore. On the way up, we hit this amazing junk store just north of Duluth. I got a ton of cool books there, and as per usual, Minneapolis thrift stores also delivered a lot of good finds. Next to friends and family, that's probably what I miss most about living in the Twin Cities. As far as non-book items go, its probably unhealthy just how excited I was to get a Kik-Step step stool. For whatever reason that just made the library seem all the more real. I find my self stepping on it quite a lot. I also finally bought a proper desktop photocopier for the library. It works really well even if, as Jessa pointed out, it looks like it belongs in a dentist office. I mean, the overlap between your average dentist office and the Reanimation Library is so great, that it probably makes sense anyhow.
Below are some of these new acquisitions (along with some of the old standbys). Clockwise from the upper left-hand corner: the Kik-Step; a bunch of the MN finds; the Brother DCP 7020 Copier/Printer/Scanner; my Standard stamp stand; a view of the New Book display; and my call number printer.

So apparently we're supposed to be getting hammered by a Nor'easter today. When I walked over to the library this morning, it was just cold and rainy. I took these pictures of and by the Gowanus Canal:
