While it is true that the library can be thought of as a vast image collection, it is also true that, unlike traditional image collections, the library's images remain embedded in their original contexts, which are more often than not full of words. Of course, many writers also look to visual material for inspiration. In either case, the library provides a rich textual and visual resource for writers.
